Mr. Carrithers grew up on a prune orchard and livestock farm in Sutter County, California; in the Central Valley. He volunteered in 1972 and served in Panama with the US Army, 210th Aviation Battalion, shortly after graduating from Sutter High School. While there, Jon participated in drug interdiction and counter terrorism missions in Central and South America, often as a crewman on US aircraft.

Upon returning home in 1974, Jon bought a sailboat and lived on it for a time at a small marina in Morro Bay, California. He began attending nearby California Polytechnic State University. After changing majors many times, and following 15 years of off and on studies, Jon earned a degree in Agricultural Mechanics.

After retiring from corporate life, Jon established Scenario Management Systems, a consulting company, and ran a successful business for over 10 years until his family needed his time. He became a caretaker for elderly and ill family members for over five years, one being his eldest daughter, Jennifer, who created the pastel on the book cover. Following Jennifer’s passing, he began writing the novel Fond Hope from the notes and short stories he began over 20 years before. His first novel, it was published by Amazon Books in December 2019.

Mr. Carrithers is working on a second novel based upon his experiences in the war against the FARC/Narcos in Colombia, and his work in the exploration of the Peruvian Amazon territory of Madre de Dios.
